THE IMAGE ABOVE: To commemorate the bicentennial of Lewis and Clark's expedition, Washington, Missouri artist Gary Lucy created a series of four paintings that were in-depth studies of the historic journey. There is no way to honor our friend better than to share her passion for this monumental moment in American history by publishing her series in its entirety. That series was one of the most detailed studies of the most famous road trip in history, and copies of those issues were sought by fourth-grade teachers from across the state as they integrated them into their required Missouri history classroom curricula. She was passionate about history, particularly Lewis and Clark's exploration of the American West, and, in 2001, the first of her 11-part series on Lewis and Clark's journey appeared in Show-Me Missouri. After retiring from the Division of Tourism, she remained active in the travel industry, working with the Missouri Travel Council's Missouri Showcase, serving as a tour guide for various groups in Missouri and St. She joined the staff of the Missouri Division of Tourism in 1986, where she served as Group Tour Manager for the state. Kris began her tourism career in 1976 as a tour guide at the Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, later becoming the director of the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau. She would eventually lead numerous other tours along that same path, sharing her enthusiasm with hundreds of travelers.
